Break dancing, also known as breaking or b-boying and b-girling, is an athletic and acrobatic dance form that originated in the South Bronx, New York, during the early 1970s. It is a key element of hip hop culture, combining intricate footwork, powerful freezes, spins, and impressive acrobatics. Influenced by gymnastics, martial arts, and traditional African dance, break dancing has spread globally, symbolizing creativity and self-expression. Iconic crews like the Rock Steady Crew and legendary dancers such as Ken Swift have significantly shaped its evolution.

At the School of Dance, our mission is to help students grow as performing artists and dancers by embracing the rich history and cultural significance of break dancing, free from the pressure of competitions. Our curriculum focuses on developing technical skills, strength, and agility while teaching the historical context of break dancing. We provide a supportive environment where dancers can explore their passion and creativity, gaining a deeper appreciation for break dancing and its cultural heritage.
